Does chicken picking always have to be used with a pick?

Hey Jared alot of the classic "chicken pickin" licks are done as a hybrid style...pick and fingers both!

I think you can get that sound a lot of different ways, but muting, staccato, and phrasing are key.

Started messing with Brian Setzer's style of switching between flatpicking and holding the pick in the palm while fingerpicking...anyone else try this?  I'm having a hard time getting hold of this technique.

I've tried it but I held the pick between my thumb and thumb webbing.

I have officially almost mastered "rolling" on the telecaster. It took me all of 2011 to develop the dexterity to play that way. Pretty fun technique to use.

Hey hows it going everybody?  Just joined Nashville Universe and was checking it out and thought this was a group I'd like to get in on!

So...first question...do I get shunned if I'm playing a G&L ASAT instead of a Tele?  :)
