Monetizing Your Band Website: Online Custom T-shirts

Online Custom T-shirts
One of the perks of our industry is "swag" - the free stuff companies give you in hopes you'll use or help promote them, or have your picture taken with a product (called product placement).

We recently made a cross country trip and everything except my carry-on suitcase, was branded swag used in photo ops. Hec! Even the laptop I'm writing this post with was a freebie.

I was recently hired as a consultant to teach bands how to monetize their websites - I'm getting PAID to do podcasts and to blog! How cool is that! - and I thought I'd start with something easy, that all bands should offer - their own t-shirts.

My last picture taken in Las Vegas was - sadly - NOT a photo of me with a showgirl :) I wore a promo custom t-shirt for Team Loxly made by http://www.phototee.me

Phototee.me has above average quality custom t-shirts. They offer a great commission structure, but something more. If you place a banner on your website and a visitor buys something other then your own band's custom t-shirts - for example, they create their own custom t-shirt for their family reunion picnic... you STILL get the same commission!

And the person doesn't have to decide right away. If that visitor goes back to photo.me (or any of their related custom t-shirts sites in the next two months - and makes a purchase - you STILL get the commission!

We musicians make about 30 cents per song download, so unless your name is Lady GaGa, you're not making a lot of money with your music.

Ancillary revenue pays about $5 per custom t-shirt... and unlike the usual ONE song download, you DO occasionally get the multi-item custom t-shirts sale for family reunions, graduating classes, company picnics, etc.

This is just one example of a stock banner ad for custom t-shirts. They have them in many sizes and for lots of styles.

If you'd like to generate additional revenue for your website with custom t-shirts, go to their page at PhotoTee.me

If you have any questions or need help, you can always contact me.

All My Best,
Billy Kay
