I've had a wonderful week of attending concerts. Truth be known, This week I've attended more concerts then I did in the past 7 years living in Alaska. I'm almost overloaded with evertying I've heard and observed this week. A few thoughts from the week for anyone who wants to hear 'em.
1. If I was to only attend one concert or event a year, folks go to the CMA Songwriter's Series. The music was genuine, fun, pure entertainment and fantastic!
2. The CMA Awards Show was a highlight of my life. I've already posted about it so I won't go into detail but it was a fantastic experience. For those of us living in Nashville, I won't ever miss this event if at all possible. But again if I had to choose only one event, I'd do the Songwriters Series. The Awards Show is so scripted and staged that although it is exciting it lacks the genuine musical experience that the Songwriters Series has.
3. After attending both these events, I was somewhat dissapointed last night at the Christmas Show. Please stay with me. The music was incredible and seeing Jennifer Nettles live was VERY worthwhile to me personally. However, this is a taped event and as such, they did multiple takes on several of the songs. If the CMA Awards are staged and scripted, this takes those two things to a new level. There is no room for a genuine performance. Don't get me wrong the performances were fantastic, but lacked the energy that a live show generates to me. After watching this on TV since it began, I will say it does NOT appear that way on TV. Some notes without giving away the show.
a) Willie Robertson should NEVER EVER sing. He does a duet with Luke Bryan and although it is funny, it is painful to listen to.
b) Jennifer Nettles really does bring it everytime she opens her mouth. Her duets with Michael W Smith and Mary J Blige were incredible!
c) Kevin Costner's daughter did an awesome job on her duet with Trace Adkins.
d) The girl from Pretty Little Liars was way out of her league. Can't remember her name. Please understand she was good, but she was not near the level of the other performers. (She even made the comment after she was done, without realizing her mic was on, "Oh my God, I've never sang in front of so many people.) But she has a new CD coming out and money will get you advertising and no better advertising then the CMA stage. I'll leave that alone.
Again as I mentioned in my earlier blog this week, this whole week has made me hungry. I desire to be up there too. My dream duet is with Jennifer Nettles. She makes everyone sound incredible.
