It doesn't hurt, and the VA actually provides top notch care. Won't know the treatment plan until Tuesday. Worse case scenario (I die)... I've packed more into my lifetime then the entire state of Rhode Island... no regrets. Plus, my music is online, it can be played long after I'm gone. Other scenario, the VA wants to get every homeless Vet off the street and they offer us our own house for 30% of our income.I can always retire to a rocking chair in the smokie Mountains and play the streets of Pigeon Fork. In the meantime, I'll continue to travel and spread my songs, one new fan at a time.
I was in Seattle cutting a CD. Went to the ER to refill some meds, casually told the doctor "Is my urine supposed to be be red?". They ran some tests, cat scans. Told me I have cancer, and it can't be treated on the road. Seattle rained every day. Drove to Eureka CA. Beautiful coastal town by the redwoods - with only 2 places to play guitar. I drove to Reno - it was snowing. So came back to Vegas for a few months. I'll find out on Tuesday how long they want me to stay.
Happy New Year Susan! I had met Michael kay on Nashville Universe (he's not my brother). He was always helping us artists and said if I ever get to Nashville to look him up. I spent 3 months in Nashville proper and didn't like that all the bars wanted you to work for free. but the most important thing I learned that first night was that labels (and bars) will only look at you if you have a solid fan base. So I've been on the road for three years spreading the word that I'm great! LOL I break even. I get about $100 a night and it's $50 for a motel and $50 for gas... but I get to have an impact on people's lives when I play. I wouldn't trade that for the world
I met Michael within an hour of arriving in Nashville 3 years ago... and have spent the last three years getting far away from him! LOL. He really cares about us. Works tirelessly to promote us. I just wasn't a fan of the "we have 1000 musicians wanting to play for free if you don't want the free gig" scene, so I spent the last 3 years on the road. My ailment can't be treated on the road, so I'm back home in Vegas for a few months dealing with medical issues... and flirting with cocktail waitresses :) Not necessarily in that order
