“Music is what I love. Some people enjoy the melody but don’t pay attention to the lyrics and that’s okay, but my favorite part of a song is its lyrics. As for me I find it impossible to NOT listen to what is being said. I love listening to the story being told in the song, just as much as I enjoy sharing stories in the songs I write. I write from my heart. Inspiration is all around me. I write about what I see and feel about the joys and disappointments of relationships. Songwriting and singing are like therapy.” MaryJustice Lucas
MaryJustice Lucas started writing little songs when she was five. She would sing them to her mother, Marcia, who recorded them in a journal. She later started recording her songs and snippets of lyrics and melodies on a pocket recorder. By age 11 she got serious about writing and her lyrics became more mature with structure and in-depth thought and feelings. She entered her first songwriting competition at age 13, winning first place in the Pop/Rock category, competing with adults. After seven years of dance instruction in jazz and ballet, a knee injury resulted in having to discontinue pointe ballet. She focused instead on her music and performing. She started booking shows and songwriter rounds at age 14. MaryJustice started learning guitar at 14 as most venues where she performed did not allow performing with a recorded track. A couple of years ago, she started adding some of her favorite covers to her performances. MaryJustice has a way of taking a cover song and performing it very successfully in her own style. Frequently, she will cover songs ordinarily written for a male singer but delivers from a woman’s perspective. She has a large catalog of her originals and has continued to grow and develop her musical skills and is currently in her freshman year of college where she won a music scholarship by audition. Over the past five year she has done 100’s of performances in competitions, solo showcases, songwriters rounds, short tours, festivals and fund raising benefits,
MaryJustice has a passion for songwriting, and entertaining. Whether considered Pop, Rock or New Country, her songs appeal to teens as well as older music lovers. A multi-award winning singer and songwriter from Huntsville, Alabama, she performs regularly in North Alabama and Nashville. She has recorded demos and harmonies for other songwriters. MaryJustice has recorded an EP of her original songs entitled "Forgiveness & Faith" with instrumentation and recording done by fellow songwriter, Matt Morrow.
